OU 1983 “The Day The Pride Won” Ringer Tee
Sooners young and old know about just how much bedlam ensued during 1983’s Bedlam game, also known as “The Day the Pride Won.” The Sooners found themselves in an early, 20-3 deficit against rival Oklahoma State, and their band director, Gene Thrailkill was escorted off the sideline for not having a sideline pass. As he was escorted away, Thrailkill told the Pride of Oklahoma band to “start playing and don’t stop ’til the team’s ahead!” The Pride took his request to heart and played “Boomer Sooner” continuously 300 times; in that timeframe, the Sooners mounted a 15-point comeback and won the game on a field goal, 21-20.
