Vintage Washington Sun Dodgers Tee
Washington’s first-ever mascot was Sunny Boy, the Sun Dodger, from the 1920s. What exactly is a Sun Dodger, you ask? No one quite knows. It was the name of an old Washington humor magazine back in the 1920s, a term for an unbroken horse, slang for “night owl,” and a slightly rude way to refer to Pacific Northwest weather. Whatever the origin, the nickname was retired after only a few years, and Washington became the Huskies. In the century since, Sunny Boy has remained a unique and beloved part of Washington history.
